This feature helps you calculate emissions from mobile combustion. You can track by vehicle or by fuel type.
Add a vehicle or group of vehicles
In Company profile, select Vehicles and select "Add new".
Enter the name, quantity, location, and asset type of your vehicle.
If you plan to track emissions based on distance, fuel efficiency will be used to calculate fuel usage.
If available, enter the make, model, and year of your vehicle. Based on these details, Workiva Carbon will populate the vehicle class, fuel type, and fuel efficiency. This is currently available only for US make/models. If you don’t have the make/model/year available, you can input the vehicle class and fuel type instead. Sustian.Life will populate a US average for fuel efficiency. You can also override the fuel efficiency value if you have a value you’d prefer to use. Once you’ve entered the relevant information about your vehicle, click “Save”.
If you plan to track emissions based on a known fuel usage amount, you do not need a fuel efficiency value, and can proceed past this page without saving one.
Create an entry
Navigate to the Vehicles tab. Select the configurations gear icon.
Enablle “Mobile combustion by vehicle”, and click “Save”.
To begin entering data relating to your mobile combustion, navigate to the Vehicles tab and select ‘New Entry’ using the plus icon.
Emissions will be calculated using the data you input.
If you input distance only, the fuel volume will automatically be calculated using the fuel efficiency value for that vehicle. If you input fuel volume only, emissions will be calculated based on the emission factor for that fuel type. If you input both distance, and fuel volume, the emissions calculation will consider both values, resulting in the most accurate calculation.
Alternatively, for gasoline or diesel fuel types, emissions can be calculated using your spend data by considering historic fuel prices. This is helpful in cases where fuel volume, and/or distance aren’t available in your recorded data. This is currently available in the US only.
If you don’t have vehicle-level data, you can also track by overall fuel usage. In the Vehicles configuration, enable “Tracking by fuel” for your road or non-road vehicles. Turn on the fuel types that you would like to track.
Emissions will be calculated based on the volume of fuel consumed for the period.
Can I calculate by vehicle and fuel, or do I need to choose one of the other?
Yes, you can use both calculators within the same location, but you should not enter data for the same vehicle in two different calculators. This will lead to double counting!
Should I enter rental vehicles or other vehicles our employees drive?
No, this calculator is only for leased or owned vehicles, and the resulting emissions will end up under your company's Scope 1 emissions. Rental vehicles and employee owned vehicles should be entered in the People category.
