Locations can be added to Workiva Carbon from the Company Profile, Locations tab. There are two ways to add a new location: as a single entry or in bulk. Ensuring that location data is correct at the beginning of implementation is key to ensure calculations are utilizing the right factors and that data ingestion occurs smoothly.
Please note: The amount of locations you are able to add will differ for each customer and is dependent on the contract.
For a single entry, the below fields are available and * are required.
You cannot save a location in the UI without all of the required fields.
Users can also fill out information around Facility details such as size, facility types, currency, and preferred units of measure for each location. Some of this data will be used in intensity metric calculations in the platform.
In Asset information, users can select Ownership type (learn more here), Status (Active, Retired), and if this location is a Franchise.
From the UI for a single location, users can also add details of employee count at the specific location, as well as percent of employees that work remotely. This data will be used in intensity metric calculations in the platform.

Carbon also offers a bulk upload option for locations. This can be completed for multiple countries at once, so you can upload all of your locations in a single sheet. The first step is building your template by selecting all of the countries you want to include in your upload. Once you have selected all of the relevant countries, download the template.
The downloaded template includes sections for Address, Employee count, Facility details, and Asset information. Several of the fields in the template are drop downs, meaning we need you to select a value from a provided list. These fields are
Please note: Because this is an excel template, these drop down fields can be overridden with copy paste. Please make sure you do not input data into these fields that does not already appear in the drop downs.
Our current list of countries in the Country drop down can be found here. We recommend looking at this and using it for reference purposes when completing your template so an unrecognized country is not mistakenly uploaded into the system. We will be unable to properly calculate emissions if the country is incorrect/does not match our system. There will be error messages that appear throughout the app down the line, but ensuring this is clean/correct upfront is ideal.
