Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Colorless greenhouse gas consisting of one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms. Though naturally emitted, human combustion of fossil fuels, combined with land and ocean degradation, has increased atmospheric carbon dioxide from pre-industrial levels of 280 parts per million (ppm) to 419 ppm in 2021, increasing the global average temperature by 1.8 °F. Carbon dioxide is often abbreviated to carbon, but the element carbon is not a greenhouse gas.
